Lorikeets have such cute little heads .....
Hummer just about to hum. About 1/200 of a second later, he was out of frame. I never did get a decent flight photo. The hummingbird aviary at Sonora Desert Museum outside of Tucson is well worth a visit if you're out that way.
A very cute little Striped Honeyeater (Plectorhyncha lanceolata) at Taronga Zoo. Thanks to Storm for the id, I couldn't figure out what the little guy was....
A Chestnut-breasted Mannikin (Lonchura castaneothorax). Apparently these are common to East coast Australia. Not the bits I've lived in though 'cos I'd never seen one before I found this little guy at the Zoo. Taronga Zoo, Sydney, April 2006
A noisy miner. Not one of Australias most beloved birds as they do tend to displace a lot of other natives. They do have a fair bit of character to them though so it's hard to dislike them much.
A Plumed Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna eytoni) according to my friend Storm. Although I've only just noticed that Mel suggested a while ago that it could be a Wandering Whistling-Duck and I didn't notice that she'd posted that one. Sorry Mel! OK, it's time for a duck off..... Wandering or Plumed? Which shall it be................?
